Is There Life After Divorce?

0

It may not seem like it when you are in the heat of the battle – battling over marital assets or perhaps even battling of custody of the children – but there is life after divorce.  Like all battles and wars, they end and so will the divorce process.  It may seem hard to believe if you are in the middle of the battle right now, but one day the emotions will subside, the battle will be over, the children will adjust and you will start again.

Life after divorce, however, is neither good nor bad in and of itself.  Like all things, life after divorce will depend on the decisions and actions you take.  Whether you will be happy after divorce will depend on many factors over which you have control.  A real estate agent took on a new client and the client asked her if she thought they would be happy in the new town.  The real estate agent simply asked whether the client was happy where they came from.  The client said not really.  The real estate agent then said that they wouldn’t be happy here either.  The point is, the new city had nothing to do with the client’s happiness.  The client was incapable of being happy.

The same is true for life after divorce.  No external event can determine whether or not you’ll be happy.  Only you will determine that.  But what will life after divorce entail?  Well, it will be pretty much the same as when you were in the marriage, except that the emotional turmoil will be gone.  You’ll start dating, spending time with your friends that you haven’t seen in a long time.  But you’ll also get up every morning and go to work, cook dinner for yourself, go grocery shopping as well as cut the grass, do laundry, and the dishes.

Most people think that divorce will make them happy.  It won’t; it will just stop the emotional turmoil and the daily fighting.  It has nothing to do whether you’ll be happy.  Only you can determine that.
