Reasons Men Divorce

david_dugginsReasons Men Divorce

Studies show that almost half of all marriages end in divorce. Two thirds of divorces are initiated by women. This high percentage of women who initiate the divorce proceeding is in part due to the divorce laws that usually favor women when it comes to getting child custody. Another reason is that men are usually more likely than women to trigger a divorce by abusing alcohol, violent behavior or infidelity. There’s still a large number of men who are disappointed with their wives and consequently are the initiators of the divorce proceedings. Here are 10 of the reasons that contribute to the men’s decision to divorce their wife.

  1. Irreconcilable differences. Making a marriage work takes time, compromise and adjustments on both parts. After trying to make things work for a while, some men might realize that there are problems that will simply not go away, and there are irreconcilable differences that cannot be solved in a reasonable manner.
  2. Constant criticism and nitpicking. Women are usually more inclined to posses this flaw. Women who constantly find faults in their husband, argue and have a confrontational attitude, can drive them away and destroy the marriage. Men feel the need to be cared for and understood by their women, and when this does not happen, they tend to have a desire to continue the marriage.
  3. Inability to manage conflict. All couples fight occasionally. Most successful ones have the ability to go pass that point and end the conflict. Women who can seem to get over an argument and nag their husbands about it will probably give them a good reason for a divorce.
  4. Infidelity. Yes, that’s right, women cheat too. Thought men are more prone to infidelity, there are many women who cheat on their husbands. Infidelity is one of the most frequently cited divorce reason.
  5. Inability to conceive. The desire to procreate is very strong among men. They want to have children who will carry their name and lineage. Fatherhood is one of the reasons most men get married. Unfortunately there are women who are unable to bare children. If their husbands are deprived of the simple pleasure of raising their own children, they might feel frustrated and look for a partner who can procreate.
  6. Sexual incompatibility. Sex is a very important part of a successful relationship. If men don’t get the sexual gratification and satisfaction they crave for at home, they will feel frustrated. The resulting tension can sometimes lead to divorce.
  7. Invasion of personal space. Women are sometimes more clingy than men, and don’t understand the importance of the personal space they should give their husbands. Men feel suffocated and as a result feel the need to escape. This might lead to the dissolution of attraction and eventually divorce.
  8. Lack of intimacy. It’s human nature that makes us desire companionship, affection, intimacy and attention. Although men are often accused of the low intimacy levels, there are plenty of women who are responsible for it. Although the lack of intimacy alone is not a sufficient reason for divorce, it can lead to other problems like infidelity or resentment.
  9. Financial problems. Men are often seen as providers, and some women take that for granted. When men work hard to sustain their family and their wife does not value his effort and sacrifice, they will feel unappreciated and frustrated.
  10. Emotional abuse. Men are rarely subjected to physical or sexual abuse by their wives, for obvious reasons. But it is not uncommon for the wife to treat their husband badly and verbally or emotionally abuse him. A men who faces such treatment in their household, will eventually find a way to escape.
