What Men Should Know

What Men Should Know About Divorce

Divorces can get ugly. Even the most amiable ones are unpleasant. But the ones that get out of control can turn you life into a living hell. We all heard of unbelievable divorce stories where the wife leaves the husband penniless, takes away his kids, haves him evicted from his own house. And we cannot believe it. Even more, we cannot believe this could even happen to us. People think their marriage is divorce-proof. Some are confident that their spouse would never stoop so low. Others believe that no one can manipulate the legal system, or that they would be married forever so divorce is out of the question. The statistics proves them wrong. More than half of all marriages are over in a few years.

The truth is that divorce can drive people crazy. If your marriage is on the rocks or if you think that your wife might serve you with divorce papers and you want to be prepared, this is what might follow. Remember, these are not hypothetical situations, these are real stories and they happened to real people.

  1. Women always have the upper hand in a divorce. This is the first thing that needs to be very clear to you. Courts are always more sympathetic to women, especially to those who know how to play their cards right. If your ex wife plans on getting child custody, child support plus alimony, she is more likely to convince the judges that she really deserves it all.
  2. You ex wife can bring you to financial ruin. No matter how hard it may be to believe, there are women who did just that to the man they loved and married, the man who fathered their children. Asking for alimony and child support are only few of the ways that your wife can leave you penniless.
  3. All your joined accounts can be emptied by your ex wife. Nothing stops your wife from taking all the money from your joint savings account or other joint accounts. When things turn ugly, you need to address your financial situation and cancel all accounts that you opened as a family, which can be a financial liability in the future.
  4. She can use the children in court, in order to get more money in child support and custody. Numbers show that in almost 80% of all cases, women will get child custody. In the really unfortunate cases, they might even resort to turning your kids against you, or use them to get more money in child support.
  5. She can have you thrown out of your own house. Even if you purchased the house together and it is common propriety, women can use other ways to have you evicted from your own home. Bogus domestic violence claims, saying that you are a threat for your children, are only some of the ways that she can legally have you throw out of your own home.

Sure, these are extreme cases, they don’t happen every day. But they do happen, and they might happen to you. It’s best to be prepared for the worst so you know how to handle the situation and take measures.  We recommend Divorced Dads Survival Guide as the best resource to use if you are a man considering divorce.
